The way to enter the path of Reiki is through receiving four Reiki attunements or empowerments from a properly trained Reiki master. At present, there are many Reiki masters advertising their service and as with any other decision you make in life, you need to do some research before you find the one suitable for you. The teacher is important, even crucial. To a certain  extent, the quality of your master will determine your motivation to keep  on practicing once you have received the empowerments.

Therefore, you need to find someone who through his or her master, has received the direct energy transmission going all the way back to Dr. Usui, and beyond to the lineage  of practitioners who were Dr. Usui's source of inspiration. You need to  find a master who makes you feel peaceful in their presence, who can explain things well and who is willing to answer your questions and address your doubts with authority.  A mature human being with extensive personal experience, who doesn't feel personally  assaulted when you challenge him or her with pertinent questions. Half-baked masters will not help you, but rather sabotage your Reiki path right from the start.
